What is MyMedicare?

MyMedicare is a free and voluntary patient registration model designed to enhance the relationship between patients, their general practice, doctors, and primary healthcare teams. The Department of Health and Aged Care has found that patients who consistently see the same GP and healthcare team experience better health outcomes.

Key Benefits of Registering with MyMedicare:

1. Comprehensive Health Information Access:

   • My Health Record provides access to essential health information at the point of care, including in emergencies. This includes shared health summaries, current medications and prescriptions, immunisation history, hospital discharge details, and Medicare, DVA, and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme history.

2. Enhanced Care Coordination:

   • Your chosen practice and GP will be listed on your My Health Record. This ensures all health professionals involved in your care, including those in public hospitals, can easily coordinate with your regular healthcare team.

3. Additional Funding for Better Care:

   • By registering with MyMedicare and selecting a preferred GP, the Australian Government provides extra funding to support general practices. This includes benefits such as bulk billed, longer telehealth consultations at a higher rate for children under 16 and Commonwealth concession card holders.

4. Personalised Care and Attention:

   • Registering signals to your general practice that you see them as your regular primary healthcare team, enabling them to provide you with more personalised and attentive care.

5. Specialised Benefits:

   • For Residents of Aged Care Homes: From August 2024, expect more frequent visits from your GP and improved care planning.
   • For Patients with Chronic Diseases: Benefit from better connections to appropriate care within general practice, reducing the need for frequent hospital visits.

Register with MyMedicare through Medicare express app, Medicare website or through our paper forms available at Our Medical reception to enhance your primary healthcare experience.

Parents and Guardians

Parents/guardians and children can be registered at the same Our Medical practice, if either is eligible and registered. A parent/guardian must register a child under 14 years and provide consent on their behalf and this registration will need to be completed at the practice. Young people aged 14 to 17 years can register and provide consent without a parent/guardian.

How to sign up for your child or dependent:

• For children or dependents under 14 years old: Please register at Our Medical via the paper forms available at reception • For those aged 14 to 17: They can sign up independently using the Medicare Plus App, your online Medicare Account or by filling out the paper forms at reception

Eligibility Requirements To register Our Medical as your chosen practice you must:

• Have visited the centre at least twice in the past 24 months
• Have either a valid Medicare card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran Card.

Exemptions from all eligibility requirements will apply to people who are facing hardship including people experiencing domestic and family violence and/or homelessness. A trusted practice or GP will be able to help with direct registration in MyMedicare.

How to Register yourself:

Register through the Medicare online website here or through the ‘Medicare express’ app instructions below.

When registering, simply enter the centre name for your local Our Medical centre, these will be listed as:

Medicare express app: Step 1: Visit the Express Medicare App and Sign-in

Step 2: Select MyMedicare from the home page

Step 3: Select 'Start'

Step 4: Search for the Practice and select 'Next'

Step 5: Select the preferred GP

Step 6: Follow the prompts to complete patient registration questions

Step 7: Select Submit registration

Step 8: Registration is now complete. No further action required
